Gigantic solar waterfall designed for 2016 Olympics

Rio de Janeiro was selected for the 2016 Olympics, and one of the centerpieces of its architecture might be the Solar City Tower. Designed by Swiss architecture firm RAFAA, it gathers solar energy to pump seawater to its top, and resulting falling water spins turbines that produce energy around the clock.

Rio's concrete christ is going to have to start performing some impressive miracles to top this. The Solar City Tower is not going to just sit there looking pretty &#s8212; it will house an amphitheater, auditorium, cafeteria and shops on the ground level. You'll be able to climb up inside it, viewing the beauty of Rio de Janeiro from a variety of observation decks. There will even be bungee jumping!

This brilliant idea is an entry in the International Architecture Competition for the 2016 Olympics, where the Brazilian metropolis aims to represent the green city of the future. If it can actually do what its makers claim, this could be a second iconic structure for the land of samba and bossa nova.

I've never had a reason to go to Rio de Janeiro but this sounds cool enough that I might want to go some day.

Beautiful on it's own, but brilliant functionality!
